I put my T410 in my backpack today and when I pulled it out. There were 4 scratches on each side and one little dot in the middle. By scratch, I mean that the rubber shows a darker layer under it. Has this happened to any of you? Thanks!

sigh. Such is the life of a ThinkPad. I personally have managed to keep it from getting any immediately noticeable scratches (corners have long been worn off) by avoiding bags where the zipper (or other metal pieces) can scratch the paint as the laptop is coming out of the bag.

But I digress. Those must be some pretty serious gouges; usually scrubbing it with your hand will get rid of it, but those are the light scratches. The heavy ones (which go through the paint to the plastic) are the ones that really suck.

Probably should petition Lenovo for a repainting service or something XD.

I put my laptop in a sleeve -- I have an old one from Eagle Creek -- and then put it in my backpack. I am more concerned about dust and dirt getting in the connector holes.

Reminds me of a guy whose wife complained about the color of their refrigerator. Instead of getting a new one, he took the old one to Earl Scheib and had it repainted. They divorced not long after.

You could always try a high quality eraser from Pentel (Hi Polymers) or Staedtler (Mars) and scrub the whole lid over with it. It'll hide all the minor scratches.

Otherwise for a 5.x year old laptop, the T43 is doing fine and the T410 still seems mint for closing towards the half year mark.

However, that one sad non Thinkpad I've worked on with bubbling, flaky gray paint... Such is the life of a student laptop.
