Recently, I've noticed a problem when I try to use the TouchPad, with or without the Bluetooth mouse powered on (it has a power switch on the bottom). It may be a conflict with the mouse driver, but I can't remember for certain if that is exactly when the problem started.
The problem is that 2-fingered scrolling on the TouchPad no longer works - it doesn't scroll at all like it first did. So I go into the mouse settings and immediately get this error message: http://i36.tinypic.com/w8nlso.jpg
I have no idea what the "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" is. Is that the TouchPad driver? Since I don't know the right thing to do here, I've been clicking "No" which brings up the Mouse Properties box. I navigate to the Two-Fingered Scrolling options and the Enable box is un-checked.
Has anyone run into this before? Any ideas how to fix this? If I click "Yes" to uninstall the Synaptics driver will that totally disable the TouchPad? I don't want to do that. Then it says I would have to reinstall the driver for the external device. Well, "I" didn't install the Bluetooth mouse driver - Win7 found and installed it. Will it find it a second time?
I'm just very reluctant to click on the "Yes" button to uninstall the driver. I'm afraid I'll end up with no pointing devices working. I even tried hitting Fn-F5 & turning off the Bluetooth radio, but that didn't help either. By the way, all this time the TrackPoint has continued to work fine.
Maybe I can try just uninstalling the Bluetooth mouse driver to see if that brings back the TouchPad scrolling... hmmm?
Thanks for any other ideas,
Gary A
