T410 TouchPad Scrolling Problem

I bought my T410 (config in my sig) with Bluetooth in order to be able to use a Bluetooth notebook mouse. When I first got the T410 last month, both the TrackPoint & the TouchPad worked normally. A couple weeks later, I got & installed a MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. Win7 found & installed the necessary drivers and the mouse worked fine.
Recently, I've noticed a problem when I try to use the TouchPad, with or without the Bluetooth mouse powered on (it has a power switch on the bottom). It may be a conflict with the mouse driver, but I can't remember for certain if that is exactly when the problem started.
The problem is that 2-fingered scrolling on the TouchPad no longer works - it doesn't scroll at all like it first did. So I go into the mouse settings and immediately get this error message:

I have no idea what the "Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" is. Is that the TouchPad driver? Since I don't know the right thing to do here, I've been clicking "No" which brings up the Mouse Properties box. I navigate to the Two-Fingered Scrolling options and the Enable box is un-checked.

One-fingered scrolling is not enabled either. When I click in the box to enable two-fingered scrolling, no check mark appears but the Apply button turns from grayed-out to black, so I click on Apply, then OK my way back out. That doesn't help - scrolling still doesn't work. I've even tried clicking on the Defaults button, but that has no affect either. Here is that screenshot:

Has anyone run into this before? Any ideas how to fix this? If I click "Yes" to uninstall the Synaptics driver will that totally disable the TouchPad? I don't want to do that. Then it says I would have to reinstall the driver for the external device. Well, "I" didn't install the Bluetooth mouse driver - Win7 found and installed it. Will it find it a second time?
I'm just very reluctant to click on the "Yes" button to uninstall the driver. I'm afraid I'll end up with no pointing devices working. I even tried hitting Fn-F5 & turning off the Bluetooth radio, but that didn't help either. By the way, all this time the TrackPoint has continued to work fine.
Maybe I can try just uninstalling the Bluetooth mouse driver to see if that brings back the TouchPad scrolling... hmmm?
Thanks for any other ideas,
Gary A

Fixed. I uninstalled the bluetooth notebook mouse 5000 driver (didn't fix the problem), then uninstalled the UltraNav Driver and Utility. I reinstalled the UltraNav Driver and Utility and the TouchPad scrolling once again worked. I reinstalled the MS Notebook mouse 5000 and it worked. I went back to the TouchPad to test the scrolling and it now worked.
Something got buggered, but reinstalling the drivers and utility fixed it.
Have a great day

Sometimes things go funny with layered driver installs if you don't do it properly.
As a point of future reference: When the Synaptic drivers are uninstalled, Windows 7 steps in and provides default, generic PS/2 pointing device drivers (which makes the TrackPoint act like a lead weight).

This is weird. I lost the two-fingered scrolling on the TouchPad AGAIN.

I had to reinstall the UltraNav driver AGAIN. Now it's back working. I hadn't installed or updated anything else except the MS critical updates that came out this week, but the UltraNav was working after I installed those. The UltraNav just started screwing up an hour or so ago.

If it happens again, I'll try to remember to rollback the driver to see if that fixes it. But, then again, reinstalling the current driver has fixed it... twice. It's still replacing the driver.
I'll also have to try and pay more attention to exactly what I was doing when the two-fingered scrolling stops working. My bad.

I just got a new T410 and I find the trackpad seems unresponsive when trying to scroll. Sometimes is is just plain unresponsive to any touch but mainly I am having trouble getting it to scroll, even when using two fingers.

When two-finger scrolling stops working for me, this is what I find. Go to Mouse Properties. Click on the UltraNav tab and in the TouchPad section, click on the Setings button. On the left side, click on the + sign next to Scrolling to expand the tree. Click on Two-Finger Scrolling. Is the box next to Enable Two-Finger Scrolling checked?
When I have my problem, that box is unchecked and clicking on it does not work - I cannot check the box. It's re-install the driver time for me.
When the driver is installed and working properly, only very light pressure with 2 fingers is needed to scroll.

This T410 touchpad is ruining my Thinkpad experience! I own two and BOTH touchpads just do not seem to want to scroll. I have checked and unchecked all the boxes and one and two finger scrolling is lame at best!
The new trackpad design is not working for me.

Your problem sounds different than mine. Most of the time the TouchPad works fine, until the two-finger checkbox becomes un-checked and I can't re-check it without reloading the UltraNav drivers.

That's most likely because SynTPEnh.exe crashed. Did you try to install those older drivers mentioned on the link I posted (not just rollback)?

On my T410i the last working driver version is 15.0.18.0. Newer ones do not work (15.0.24.0 is the newest I have tested).

15.0.24.0 is what I have installed. It has been running fine since the last reinstall, Oct 1.

I have tried both drivers on both T410 units. The touch pad works perfectly but the scroll function is horrible.
My VP is going to keep his and uses it with a mouse. Mine is going to be replaced with another W510 on Tuesday. I ma not liking the new bumpy touch pads.

My only other TP was (is) a T21 which, of course, didn't have a TouchPad, only a TrackPoint, so I have no basis for comparison. But to me, when the UltraNav driver is working in my T410, the TouchPad, including two-finger scrolling, works fine.

Well, one suggestion would be to go find the Registry key holding the two finger scrolling settings, and changing it's permissions to read only while it's working. Dunno if this has any effect. I can't find the precise registry key for you because my T400 is running stock (non-multitouch) drivers.

It looks like it starts here: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics
It's something to try.

Huh. I have a key under HKCU\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2\2FingerGestures. (Also 3 and 4 O.o)

Sounds like the registry entries are different.

Here is mine:
