WinXP install not working on my T400; WinXP-T400 probs?

#1 Post by hydrostarr » Fri Aug 27, 2010 1:28 pm

My WinXP install is failing on my T400. I recall the install saying it didn't have a driver/file for something or other. I can provide details later; pls let me know if I need to provide any hw-spec details?.

Should I expect WinXP install to work on a T400? Or is there an inherent problem?

Last line of the failure:

Code: Select all

*** pci.sys - Address F748E0BF base at F7487000, DateStamp 3b7d855c
Thoughts?

There's some verbiage about changing BIOS settings to turn off memory options like caching or shadowing; do any of these things apply?

This is a T400, Type: 6475-EC7

XP should work assuming you've slipstreamed SATA drivers/changed BIOS from AHCI to compatibility mode...
W520: i7-2720QM, Q2000M at 1080/688/1376, 21GB RAM, 500GB + 750GB HDD, FHD screen & MB168B+
X61T: L7500, 3GB RAM, 500GB HDD, XGA screen, Ultrabase

Thx. Is "slipstream sata" an additionally-required maneuver to the BIOS change? The same thing? Diff option?

If required and different, what procedure must one follow to "slipsteam sata"?

(My T400 not w me right now...)

Changing to sata compatibility mode still produces the same error. I've tried 3 diff XP Pro CDs as well.

Any other thoughts?

Here's a thread that says using an XP Pro SP1 install disc bypassed that error.

Here's a howto for slipstreaming SP2...should work as well.

My preference would be to call Lenovo and order the XP downgrade CD's for the T400. By the way if your T400 has switchable graphics, that function will not work in XP. You'll have to select one or the other GPU in BIOS.

Here's another thought. Go into BIOS and change the primary video device to internal (which is Intel).

Run a memory test. You can download one at www.memtest86.com.

Solved. Installing w WinxpPro cd that included SP3 + enabling sata compatiblity mode in bios did the trick.

Thanks all!
