T410 i5 540m Temperature - it's hot!

dear forum,
I'm a little bit curious about the normal operating temperature for i5 (particularly 54m) is.
I noticed that my T410 is very hot on the bottom surface. When checking on the cpu temperature,
under heavy use (play games) it could reach 75 degree Celsius.
under normal use (web browsing + some application), it went around 69 degree Celsius.
Any anybody experience this heat? It'll be very inconvenience to carry around fan to workaround this issue.
I set my CPU power to "adaptive"
in the case when CPU state is "low", it never hits 68 but everything's very slow!
Please helppp

None of the temperatures that you've mentioned would be of any concern with regard to being excessive. Seem fairly normal to me. Recent Intel CPU's shut themselves off when they get around 100*c.

Arrandale maximum - 105C
Don't worry, people with MBPs hit that and it will throttle it to keep the processor at about 100C, not that keeps them from exceeding it.
Just clean your fan vents so you don't hit 90C. (I have, intake mesh got clogged with dust.)

I have a friend with a T510 (so maybe a bit better airflow) also with an i5-540M.
I ran IntelBurnTest on it with four standard threads and watched it max out on HWMonitor at 74C/68C [core 0, core 2]. That T510's 2.66 Turbo was constantly active during the test, so I don't think it was thermal throttling it (read: effective cooling).
The regular web surfing temperatures seem a bit high to me though, but I come from a P8700.

Thank you everyone for replying.
I had the IBM technician replaced my motherboard recently so I was a little bit paranoid (I didn't notice it was this hot before).
By the way, how's the charging adapter? is it hot to? I just noticed that the adapter is also very hot if I let the laptop runs for... 8 hours...

I want to say the temperatures you are seeing are abnormally high. I have a T510 with the i5-520m and integrated graphics, and it is currently at 42 degree Celsius while I am typing this (the ambient temperature is normal office temperature, and the fan is on at default BIOS setting at about 2600RPM). It has never gone very high even when I stressed the cpu by say, watching HD videos on Youtube. In fact, most of the times I use tpfancontrol to turn off the fan completely and the cpu temperature typically idles in the low to mid 50's.
Of course you have a smaller machine with a higher end cpu, but I really don't imagine that would make that much of a difference.

George, it does make a difference if you look at the T510 and T410 heatsinks. The T510 heatsink is a good chunk larger with the extra fins on the rear while having shorter heatpipes.
Remember, the same platform is shared between the T510 and W510 so it'll have to be ready for those quads in thermal management.

What identical laboratory tests have you used to compare the operating temperatures of a T410 with a T510, that you can advise that the temperature in his T410 are
"abnormally high?"?

my T410 idles (web browsing, with word docs and winamp and java program open) at 44C-51C, and with full GPU/CPU load gets up to 87C (CPU temp)

Hi all,
can i check to see if anyone has been able to monitor the GPU temp on a t410 i5 540m?.
I have tried tpfc, and hwmonitor but only seem to be able to get a reading for the cpu?.
thx

Maybe installing one of the NVidia tools like nTune will offer GPU temperatures?
