T400s crashes if fan is running when entering standby

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this or has a solution:

My T400s occasionally fails to resume from standby - just a blank screen (though the thinklight and mute buttons do work). The only thing to do is hold the power button to force a shut down, then reboot.

I've noticed that this happens after the computer is running warm and the fan is going when I shut the lid. The fan just keeps running, even in standby mode, and never stops. If the fan happens to be off when I go into standby, this issue has never occurred.

I downloaded TPFanControl, and I suppose I could manually shut off the fan before I put my computer to sleep, but then I would have to remember to manually turn it back on again the next time I use the computer, or else chance overheating. That seems riskier than it's worth.

I have the most recent BIOS downloaded as well, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

After about a year of use, the laptop is running warmer than it used to, which suggests a cleaning and/or replacement of the fan might help things run cooler in general. But there still seems to be a software issue where the system will crash if the fan is going when entering standby.

Any help, or a link to a thread I've been unable to find would be appreciated. Thanks!
