How do you like your T4x0s screen?

Thought I'd make a poll about this. Now this is for the T400s and T410s series only, which have pretty much equal(ly bad) screens. I believe some of the non-s-series T410/T400 series come with better (LG) panels, therefore let's just focus on the T410s/T400s here.

The contrast and black-level of these screens are objectively the worst of any notebook, be it consumer, business or netbook, according to the following reviews:

The black-level is the highest by some margin. Forgive me for discarding the possibility that someone might truly like these screens, which I genuinely could not imagine. At any rate, I did leave an option to indicate that ... and I didn't (yet) receive much of a response at all. I guess most people aren't bothered or, as you say, not well represented by the questions as a whole. Does that mean you had to censor the poll? Thank God you're not running the country!

I'm having a hard time slanting the questions any other way than I did. The point however was to figure out whether the virtues of the screen, e.g. still 16:10, high(-ish) resolution, high(-ish) brightness are really worth the downsides in other users eyes. Seems to me like Lenovo must be having a hard time to still source any good 16:10 screens (then again, Apple can), perhaps forcing them into these trade-offs.

I share your frustration. We need to get more people looking around for better replacement panels for the T4x0 series, and also put more pressure on Lenovo to give us the option for better panels when ordering.

Poll is gone, but I had a T400s, returned it primarily because of miserable screen (contrast, black level, vertical viewing angle). More recently, ordered a T410s, screen seemed equally bad, also returned. They were both easily the worst screens I've seen on any laptop, and the notebookcheck.net measurements bear that out. It's a shame, because otherwise the machines are quite nice.

The machine is actually pretty much my ideal machine, aside from the screen, which really drags it down.
