Greetings,
I recently reinstalled Windows 7 Pro x86 on my T500 (config 2242-CTO) due to a failing hard drive, and a curious issue has reappeared that was present in the old install. Any time I attempt to hibernate the machine (sleep works fine), the screen powers off and the disk is thrashed as normal, then immediately after the hard drive powers off some process hangs, causing the drive to spin up again and the cpu to heat up quickly. The screen remains off, and nothing gets the computer to respond at this point other than holding the power button and rebooting. Nothing other than the 'unexpected shutdown' event seems to be in the system logs afterward. I've been unable to find any similar reports, just issues with booting from a hibernated state and other seemingly unrelated problems.
I have installed everything through ThinkVantage System Update except the UltraNav utility, Communications Utility, ThinkVantage Toolbox, the latest BIOS update, Access Connections, UltraNav Driver, Device Experience, and Access Help. I have also installed all "important" Windows updates to date except for a WGA-related one.
I did not install the BIOS update because the only change listed is something to do with McAfee encryption, which I do not have, and hibernate did work at some point with my current version.
The only programs installed that, as far as I know, have anything to do with the operating system, are Microsoft Security Essentials (32-bit), TrueCrypt 7.0 (full system disk encryption + bootloader), and the HP Synaptics touchpad driver that allows multitouch gestures.
Any ideas are appreciated, and I'll be glad to give additional information if needed. I also have the previous windows installation intact and bootable on the old hard disk if any comparisons need to be made.
EDIT: I just remembered, I ran into these exact symptoms with sleep earlier in the year (unsure if hibernate worked at the time or not) and it turned out to be Alcohol 52% and/or its virtual cd drive. However, I don't have that installed currently.

T500 Crashes Before Hibernate
Re: T500 Crashes Before Hibernate
Problem finally solved, there was an issue with Truecrypt 7.0 that was causing this that was fixed in 7.0a before I even posted.
