T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
Hi Y'all,
I have a T410, Win-7-64.
First issue:
My computer goes to sleep and won't wake, or takes several minute from multiple keystrokes to wake.
At some point I managed to fix this, and don't remember how, but with recent updates, it is happening again.
For now I have it in presentation mode.
Any suggestions?
Second issue:
The T410 now locks in one minute of non-use.
What setting do I need to change?
Another odd thing is my wireless connection is VERY frequently turning off. Then it comes back on.
It isn't my wireless router, my X41 tablet with win-xp is working fine.
Any ideas?
Thanks and good health, Weogo

Re: T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
What I would check first is the event viewer, standby/resume problems would most likely show up under ACPI or Kernel-Power. After that, I would personally just back up my data and reinstall windows, since many things could attribute to problems such as those. If that doesn't work, then it would most likely be hardware, and as a last resort, god forbid, call lenovo.

Hi Hunterman,
Thanks for the reply.
I looked at Event Viewer but don't know enough about what it says for it to be useful.
I found Kernel-power and there are 0 listings there in the past 24 hours.
Didn't find anything obvious referring to ACPI.
There are 1362 events of Service Control Manager, event ID 7036.
I have already done a complete re-install...
Any other ideas, much appreciated!
Thanks and good health, Weogo

Okay, try looking at the event viewer again, and sort it by prioity by clicking on "level" above the error list. The critical/error/warning entries will be at the top. Just look for anything that sounds suspicious and post it here. Are all of your lenovo drivers and software installed after you reinstalled Windows 7? You can check the drivers by clicking Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc. If there are any devices without drivers they will appear with a yellow exclamation point.
Check your screensaver settings for the locking issue. Make sure the "On resume, display logon screen" is unchecked.
What happens when you lose the wireless connection? Does the light itself turn off, the taskbar icon changes, etc.

Resolved: T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
Hi Hunterman,
I did some more Log reviewing and think I am starting to get an idea of what is there.
Looks like a useful tool!
I already checked the screensaver settings.
You said check them and I checked them AGAIN and where I thought I had selected NONE, I had in fact selected BLANK.
So I had a screensaver, going to blank in one minute.
Changed it to none, and now it isn't going to a locked screen, nor to a blank screen where I couldn't see anything to do anything.
(I have the screen set to dim to lowest setting in five minutes.)
So THANKS!
Good health, Weogo

Glad I could be of help. Are you still having issues with standby/resume?

Re: T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
Hi Hunterman,
Overall, it is better.
But to be honest yes, I'm back to where I was a few months ago:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=88958
I have the power setting to sleep in 40 minutes.
It goes to sleep just fine, with the power button slowly flashing on and off.
When I hit the power button, the hard drive light flashes, the screen stays dark, and the power button still slowly flashes.
If I wait long enough, a little over a minute, the screen WILL light up and everything is back working fine.
In the other thread noted, HarryC said push the power button. When I do this, nothing happens.
I push ever button, and nothing happens.
My old A30P, running win-2k always woke just fine, as does my X41 tablet, running win-xp.
Am wondering if this is some issue with win-7?
Could it be some mis-match between the windows-7 power manager and the Lenovo power manager?
Thanks and good health, Weogo

Re: T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
I am not familiar with the bios of a T410, but you could take a look at the various power settings there and make sure everything adds up. Otherwise you could load the factory default settings, usually you press F9 while in the bios to do this.

Re: T410 won't wake, computer locking in one minute
Hi Hunterman,
Success!
I updated BIOS. No change.
Then I changed several settings. One of them did it:
1) nwiz.exe was set to run on startup. Found online comments about this Nvidia software looking for something, never finding it, causing screen errors.
2) Under power settings, the T410 was set to ask for a password on resume. But I had no password set.
Maybe, maybe not an issue, but I set it to not ask for a password.
3) Something else and I can't remember what it was.
Hopefully somebody else finds something useful here!
Thanks for hanging with me!

Glad you got it all straightened out, even if you weren't entirely sure what did it.
