Question about T400 switchable graphics

Hi all!

My T42 died due to overheating and poor solder connection. Now I have a T400 with switchable graphics, and ATI 3470 started to act funny.

¿Will the integrated INTEL stop working with a dead ATI card? ¿would I still be able to switch to INTEL... or the motherboard would be no longer usable, such as T42 and T61?

Thanks in advance!

You can go into the bios to disable switchable graphics and select the internal graphics (intel). This will force the system to use onlyl the intel graphics so it should not even see the discrete graphics (ATI).

What problem are you having?

Hi vinuneuro,

I dropped my T400 from a table and the GPU is starting to fail. Sometimes it will simply freeze and other times there is no display at all, but when applying pressure on the laptop it works. It seems there might be a broken solder joint, because those were exactly my symptoms with a T42. I'm worried of ending up with a non-working motherboard again

Have you inspected the ATI chip under the heatsink assembly?
