New models of thinkpads soon? 410 510 replaced

#1 Post by dallascowboys » Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:46 pm

Hello all, new to the forum. The 410, and 510 have been out for about 9 or 10 months now and even though they feature many of the latest gadgets, I dont want to buy one and then a couple months down the road lenovo comes out with a new thinkpad.

Even though I would like a laptop soon (I just returned a Sony Vaio F series, corei7, blu ray player and burner, etc and etc.) I want to go with Thinkpads because of the durability and over all satisfaction that most people have talked about. And also there are the "legends of thinkpad" vids on youtube. If yall don't know about these videos on youtube, you must check it out. Many stories about peoples thinkpads being abused (left outside for months, submerged in floods and etc.) and still working.

Anyways, let me get to the point, do yall have any info as to when lenovo will come out with new thinkpads? I really want the t410s, but many people on this forum, along with other reviews and even the lenovo sales rep recommended not getting a t410s due to many problems with it. So I would likely get the 410 if I bought one today. But as for the new ones I know that eventually they will come out with a new line of thinkpads, the question is when. What plans are in the works? I do know that some manufactures wait for intel's newest chipsets to come out with new laptops. Intel might not come out with a new chip until the first quarter of 2011. Is it worth it to wait until 2011 to buy a thinkpad? Like previously stated, I dont want to buy a 410 and then the 430 or etc replace it the next month. (I called lenovo, but of course they say they have no knowledge of new thinkpads, because they want you to purchase now, not wait). Hopefully a revamped 410s comes out soon to replace all of the issues with the current 410s

Thanks in advance...good to be in the forum

oh yeah...Go Cowboys!

When they are ready.

The usual clue is to look at when Intel is scheduling new processor releases.

right, that's what I figured, but would you wait until a new model comes out to get one or would you just get a thinkpad now?

true, I do need one now, and I know if always wait for the latest technology that you will never buy because their is always going to be something newer and better later on....why buy a 2011 car when you can wait a year for the 2012's?...lol. But with that being said, do yall think that this t410s with the Nvidia Optimus is worth the wait? I just wish the 410s offered a 9 cell battery (instead of the 6 cell bay and 3 cell slice), any news on if a 9cell will become available?

Its the same every year... sometime around CES in January new/refreshed models are announced. If all goes well you can buy one around April. Depending on how far off Intel's roadmap is, of course. And Intel isn't going to ship anything radically new in 2011.

so waiting until april for a laptop is no bueno, so will likely buy one now, but then come april, if and when a new model comes out that I do like, where do yall recommend selling our thinkpads?

I just purchased a T510 this morning. Personally, I think you are better off to get one now instead of waiting, The T510's have been out long enough now, that Lenovo has had time to correct any bugs in either the software or hardware. I went with there web special and had an additional 20% off coupon, which made for a GREAT price.

The coupon code is USPTSERIES and is good for 20% off a T series thinkpad priced at $1500. or more. I think it may have expired now but you can try it.

If you wait a while, there're usually 30/35% coupons. At least up here they do :P.
Sometimes the coupon has a price break at $2000 too.

I.e. I can configure a T510 with HD+ screen to be $1188, and by adding the FHD for $250, it bumps the price above $2000, which practically doubles the discount and only makes the price $1198.
