T510: Replace 1600x900 screen with a FullHD display

#1 Post by Flyser » Thu Sep 30, 2010 1:55 am

Hi,
I am planning to replace the HD+ (1600x900) display of my Thinkpad T510 with a FullHD display (1920x1080, 270nits, better color accuracy).
While my current display is fantastic in most regards, the lower resolution compared to my old R61 (1680x1050) still bothers me and the better brightness and color accuracy come as a bonus.

While reading through various information on the internet, I found that some models require swapping the cable and/or the backlight of the display along with the panel. Is this the case for my T510 4349-2PU?
The next question is where I should order such a Panel? If I search for FRU number 42T0765 on ebay, I find lots of "compatible" panels, but I want an original one (i.e. one that also comes with the FHD T510/W510 variants). I also found out that the 42T0765 is an "AU Optronics B156HW01 V.4" and there are lots of offerings from resellers for this particular screen. But they usually list prices between 140€ and 190€, is that realistic for a _original_ and new panel? And will these screens even work in a T510?

Thanks,
Flyser
