T410 Harware Virtualzation

#1 Post by indicium » Wed Oct 20, 2010 5:40 pm

I have a T410 with both XP and Vista virtual machines running under Windows Virtual PC that works very well. So, I decided to enable hardware vitualization thinking that it may improve something. After enabling it in BIOS and rebooting, neither of the virtual machines would work. I went back and disabled it and the vitural machines worked again.

1. Has anyone had this problem and knows of a solution or should I leave it alone and just run the vitural machines as is?
2. Should I have enabled it before I installed the virtual machines?

probably should be enabled before installing the VM stuff.

I use VMWare and I can toggle the Virtualization setting under BIOS with no effect on running the virtual machine. Perhaps Virtual PC has some sort of option in it's configuration dialogs that permits it to use Virtualization instructions?

This article would suggest no additional modifications are necessary after enabling Virtualization in the BIOS.

I run Virtual PC - XP Mode as well. I enabled virtualization in the BIOS before installing Virtual PC and have had no problems. I have not tried changing the BIOS setting since.

The virtualization software might need hardware virtualization enabled as well.

Microsoft Virtual PC does require hardware virtualization to be enabled in the BIOS, VMWare Player does not.
