T410 Fingerprint reader keeps shocking me!

#1 Post by Main Target » Fri Oct 22, 2010 7:15 am

I cannot be the only person who keeps getting shocked by this darn fingerprint reader.

Or am i just loaded with static electricity?

:-( ive been shocked like 100 times.

LOL It used to happen to me all the time back when I used my fingerprint reader. The FPR has since stopped functioning for me, and the cause is either the repetitive static shocks or being dropped and impacting that corner of the laptop way too many times.

XD

It still shocks me from time to time when I brush it even though the thing doesn't show up in BIOS anymore.

Mine seems fine, I'd recommend making a warranty call.

That would be on the safe side; my FPR started to become unreliable before it failed completely. (Never bothered to make a warranty call because I'm not too dependent on my FPR. The new swipe to power on feature would make the FPR a lot more integral to day-to-day usage.)

Does it happen both on AC power and on battery?

I've had two laptops (T42 and T60) give shocks through the fingerprint reader, which turned out to be due to a problematic wall plug splitter.

That is a good point; I never noticed whether it occured solely on AC or not. That said, however, my adapter buzzes when it's plugged into the wall and laptop, but only when the laptop isn't doing anything intensive; the buzz lessens with increasing power draw.

Is your AC adapter a 2-prong or a 3-prong (with ground)?

If you're still under warranty, I suggest giving Lenovo a call and asking if it's normal. Don't need a repeat of my fingerprint reader dying.

If you don't want to deal with Lenovo phone support (they're not bad up here in Canada), you could try posting on the Lenovo forums, if you haven't already [in which case I've forgotten or didn't notice].

You sure you don't have the Finger Print Taser upgrade?
