Hello everyone, im new to this forum and i got some questions about the mighty thinkpad t510.

basically as a power user i was looking for a durable and flexible platform laptop that will last longer and allow upgrades. i stumbled upon the w510 but with the nessasary upgrades it was well beyond my budget. then i decided to settle on the t510 as it was the perfect choice for me. Now before i go to the store and hand over 2000 bucks i want to be sure that in the future i will be able to upgrade my thinkpad with say an Intel core i7 940xm processor and the upcoming intel lyndonville ssd. As it appears the t510 is based on the qm57 chipset as the w510 (that does support the 940xm) and from my examination has the same cooling system.

Also when ddr3 8GB sticks will be avaliable, will i be able to su up 16GB of ram on my thinkpad? The chipset has official support.

can anyone confirm that the t510 does support the top of the line intel quads?

Best of all and thanks for the help.

I can't be certain the T510 motherboard supports the quad-core, but it very likely will be able to run future SSDs in 2.5" form factor.

One of the differences between the T510 and the W510 is that the W510 has four DIMM slots whereas the T510 has two. This is primarily because the dual-cores only support two DIMMs and the quad-cores support four.
