I'm turning into rant-man, with this latest Thinkpad purchase. Ugh.

When I first got it, I was a bit shocked about the assembly sloppiness. Loose / creaky left palm rest, bent up right corner pam rest, left bottom of screen bezel keeps separating ... just cheap feeling for a rather pricey piece of hardware.

Unfortunately I've not found anything that I like better, either.

But now, this supposed extra tough, Mil-Spec rated laptop just flaked out on the screen department ... about a month into owning it. I was sitting on the couch, and adjusted the screen angle by pushing the bezel near the bottom right hinge.

Now there is no more screen on the whole right side (1" wide). Broken LCD.

Yea, so ... really, guys? I'm not a big dude, no big fingers, no rough treatment. Adjusting the screen breaks the LCD. Impressive. And I tend not to break things, not even fragile ones. I imagine they'll fix it, but that still won't make me feel safer about the durability of this setup.

And still I don't know anything better to buy. Most other laptops are too much shiny plastic, flashy, bulky, lesser keyboards ... bleh. I can't believe that this IS the best you can get for top dollar.

*rant end*

There have generally been a few display issues with the T4x0s models; ranging from the issue you posted (I recall seeing it elsewhere before) and vertical banding on the display.

I think they didn't try enough on the T400s/T410s for it to be a viable replacement to the X301 in terms of ultrathin computing. That said, however, the T410 (non s) and T510 have been impressively, solidly built machines (friends bought them at my advice).
