8gb high speed laptop memory?
8gb high speed laptop memory?
there is for example the kingston hyperx 4GB (2x2gb) ddr3-1333 with a latency of 7, or the ddr3-1066 with a latency of 5, but there is no 8GB version of this. Anyone knows if it is available from say a different manufacturer? I am looking for 8GB high speed memory for my t410s.
thanks

Re: 8gb high speed laptop memory?
your T410s can only use up to 1066 MHz so installing 1333 MHz would be a waste. the 1333 modules will downclock to 1066 MHz per the processor installed. there is no way to unlock a higher memory multiplier.
the only reason to get 1333 modules is if they are the same price or less than 1066 modules.
regarding CAS latency, you aren't going to notice a difference unless you're running extremely memory-intensive applications for hours upon hours on end. in normal, everyday use there's no way you'll know the exact latency of the modules installed.
in any case, 1333 modules with 777-20 CAS will wind up at around 1066 MHz and 555-15 CAS after automatic downclocking. read up on how CAS is actually calculated and you'll understand why this happens.

Re: 8gb high speed laptop memory?
thanks. good to know that T410s clocks the memory only at 1066mhz.
actually, I am running memory intensive applications for hours and hours (for my work and research).
memory speed is also very important (more so than in other systems) in systems with integrated graphics, since the GPU shares the memory bandiths with the CPU (and indirectly faster cas timings help there, too).
all that if only there would be a 8GB (2x4gb) 1066mhz CL 5 module available.

Re: 8gb high speed laptop memory?
what latency CL will this one have after it is downclocked from 1600MHz to 1066MHz in my T410s?

It's a SODIMM CL9 *GB (2x4GB)

Re: 8gb high speed laptop memory?
assuming the 1600 modules are compatible, they'll downclock to 1066 555-15 -- same native speed as the low-latency 1066 modules.
