Yes, this is another thread about the noise of the t410

Seriously, i think this is a very noisy machine. can it really be? I'm studying at the university and we are 6 people in my group. Sometimes my computer is the one that makes the most noise. I think it is embarrassing. Lenovo is supposed to be a high end machine where everything is okay. The other computers are: 2x 4 year old Macs 1x Sony Vaio, 1x Toshiba...

Seriously, the only machines you can hear are the Vaio(sometimes) and my t410.

What do you think? I've used tpfancontrol to see that the fan runs at about 2500 rpms.

The fan noise on a T410 should not be noticeable in regular usage at all.

Heck, my T400 spooled up to level 64 matches my friend's VAIO surfing the web in noise.

Even at 2500RPM, it shouldn't be very audible. My Scorpio Black's noise level is equal to the fan at 2500RPM.

Doing regular work, the temperature shouldn't be high enough to push the fan to higher speeds.

But what should i do? I have on site warranty, but if he finds that nothing is wrong, will i have to pay something?

What kind of noise is it?

If you leave it on BIOS controlled, what speeds does it reach at which temperatures?

Are all of your drivers up to date?

tpfancontrol says 3575 RPMs right now at 44 degrees celcius. It more or less stays like that. Sometims drops below 2000 for a little while until temp rises to 44 again.The ThinkVantage center does not have any updates for me, so i guess everything is up to date. It's just regular fan noise...

How does this compare to the temps and RPMs of your t410's?

Check your System cooling policy under Power Manager...
44C shouldn't send it to ~3500RPM... My T400's BIOS only goes to 3500RPM when my temperatures hit the high fiftys.

Otherwise, I suspect your BIOS might be acting funny, in which case, you might want to try reflashing it with the current version, which may or may not help.

Okay i've tried both things, but it doesn't seem to change anything.

What's the temperature of your t410s?

It idles around 35C-38C with fan on 2500RPM. At this level, my Scorpio Black is equivalent in noise to it, and not very noticeable.

This might look like a software issue. Open resource monitor, go to the CPU tab, and sort by average CPU. See if anything stars consistently driving up CPU usage for extended periods of time. You might also notice a subpar battery life if this is the case.

Is that with the performance level at maximum you reach those temps at idle?

it doesn't look like there are any regularities in the CPU usage, so i think it's just the way it's build. I think i might call lenovo to hear what they say. What do you think they'll do?

Okay just tested with browser and everything closed. The temp goes down to 40-41 degrees celcius, but the fan stays on 3550 RPMs for the vast majority of the time.

While browsing, it hits 46 degrees c and still 35xx RPMs.

While browsing, transferring files, etc it hits 53 now with 38xx RPMs.

I've been using tpfancontrol for a while now, in order to discover more closely what temps and RPMs are present during normal everyday use. With the fan being controlled by bios(and the computer plugged in), the machine more or less constantly sits at 44 degrees C, running at 3500 RPMs.
I don't think this is acceptable, so i have decided to call Lenovo, and hope they are able to fix it on-site. Any thoughts?
