hi,
i might buy a t410i and i was wondering, since it's a lot more affordable than other t-series models, if there is any difference in build quality from the other t's ( 410, 510) - besides technical specs;
I don't need much processing power, so the i3 will do just fine for me, but I'm willing to pay more than for L412 or some SL models because I need a sturdy, reliable computer.

Shouldn't be any difference. Other than the low-end CPU/GPU/LCD configurations, it should be exactly the same machine.

I have been using this 'i' for about 4 months and there is no difference with regular T410. It physically the same with its big brother. The difference is only in lack of smart card reader and lower processor.

Thanks,
how about the screen, are you satisfied with the quality? Some people say that TP screens are their weakest spot;

I am aware of the screen issues of Thinkpad.
As previous Z61 and R400 user, the worst is R400. But i learn that it is better to choose highest resolution screen available for every screen size, because Thinkpad is not known for their screen quality. Lower screen resolution just make it worse.
As far as i know T410 offers 1280 X 800 and 1440 X 900 screen resolution. I pick the latter. That is almost as good as 1680 X 1050 my Z61m has. Surprisingly enough LED bring much of improvement compare to previous screen type on R400 and Z61.
Dont worry too much about screen quality. Just pick the highest resolution. It might not be as bright or as vibrant as other vendor, but it is as crisp and clear as other and your eyes wont feel tired using it for long hours of working. And that's what thinkpad is made for.
