T410si Screen Issue!

#1 Post by GnMvP » Tue Dec 28, 2010 7:21 pm

I’ve been an ibm-lenovo user for several years, owning a T61. Recently my father bought a T410si, which is an amazing machine, thin and light! Great! Although a big issue occurred … The screen(samsung) suddenly stopped functioning as it should. The backlight is not working anymore and we are stuck at the moment. The warranty is voided unfortunately.
Has anybody faced the same issue? Is this a screen issue or a motherboard one? The cheapest LCD I could find cost $400, can I find it cheaper?

First post! :D

Is the backlight not lit, but the image visible on screen?

If the backlight doesn't turn on at the BIOS POST (ThinkPad logo), then it could be one of three things:
1) The backlight on the panel is actually dead, or somewhere on the panel something went.
2) The LCD cable is damaged.
3) The motherboard is damaged.

My T400 suffered the same symptoms after I failed at disassembling the lid assembly.
Ended up replacing the LCD panel and cable to no effect and the motherboard is being fixed at the moment.

If you're under warranty, just call them up and see what they can do.

I am hoping it isn't the motherboard! Assuming that it's the LCD, where can I get a cheap one from?

eBay, most likely. I got one for $110 with shipping.

Do note that if you attempt to replace the LCD, your warranty is void.

I got the LP141WP2, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with the new generation.

LP141WP2 probably won't fit in a T400s/T410s since they likely use a thinner screen. My T400 has this screen and it's pretty good imo. If it were possible to fit this screen in the T400s/T410s I'd make the move.

I confirm that! I tried installing a screen from a t400 and it didn't fit.

You probably killed the possibility of a T410s for me with that post. :( Which model screen did you try? Was it too thick?

It's both too thick and has a different connector.. I don't remember the exact model atm.
The warranty was voided as I changed the processor and the wifi antenna!

Unfortunately for me, the problem is with the motherboard! I bought another screen and had the same result.. So I guess i'll just sell the parts..
