ultrabay adapter III & 42W8019, 1.8" HDD into 2.5" ultrabay

Got a question for all the thinkpad gurus.
The ultrabay adapter III is designed to fit a 2.5" HDD with the metal mounting bracket attached (that thin sheet metal with the hole pattern on the bottom), but not the rubber rails.
The 42W8019 1.8" to 2.5" adapter is designed to fit inside the 2.5" bays in thinkpads. No rubber rail required (AFAIK).
Logic tells me that since the 42W8019 does not use rubber rails, then its physically bigger than a 2.5" HDD w/ metal mounting bracket (which require the rails) and therefore should not fit inside the ultrabay adapter. But as I do not know, Id like to ask anyone that has experience with this to please let me know if this is right. Maybe the 4 "rail" posts on the 42W8019 are removable to slim it down? Thanks!
