Hi folks,

I bought a new T510 last week and am loving it. I've noticed three issues, though, and I'm wondering if any of them are big deals/things I should take care of.

1) Sometimes the keyboard squeaks when I hit the enter key. I don't think this is a big deal, as it happens rarely, but isn't something my T42 did.

2) The mute button on the keyboard isn't clicky. In fact, it feels partially broken, but I'm not sure if that's normal. When comparing it to the microphone mute button (the one on the right of the buttons), there's a big difference - my microphone mute button clicks when I push it down, and feels very solid. However, the speaker mute button feels loose and doesn't click when pushed down (however, it does work most of the time, especially if I push it down hard).

3) There's an angle to my fingerprint reader. It sort of angles down from left to right embedded in the keyboard. I haven't had one of these before so perhaps it's normal, but I was just curious?

All (3) items sound like manufacturing defects that could be fixed by simple parts replacement. The keyboard and Palm Rest with FPR are CRU's (customer replaceable units) that require removal of (5) screws in total to replace. If you called this into Lenovo service they would ship you a Palm rest and keyboard which you can replace yourself using the maintenance manual.

I have 3 T60Ps w. SSD and T7600 upgrades. I needed to buy a lightweight machine (<3 lbs.) and checked this forum for what's new w. Lenovo, only to find reports of screens cracking when adjusting lid viewing angles. This and other manufacturing defect posts lead me to purchase a Vaio Z.

I'll be purchasing yet another machine in the coming months, and will be monitoring these forums for updates. I love my T60Ps and would like to purchase another TXXX if Lenovo gets its act together.

I'd posit that they do have their act together.

How many businesses do you think swing by ThinkPads.com to post that their machines have been exactly what they expected?

Using forum posts to research a purchasing decision is a bit of a double-edge sword. On one hand, it can yield good information about what to be wary of. On the other hand, it's possible for a minor or rare issue to get a disproportionate amount of publicity.

It boils down to this: most people who are happy with their ThinkPads are too busy working or enjoying the hardware to post about it.

I believe that current production models of the T410s are no longer susceptible to the screen failure.

The keyboard squeakyness has gone away. I've actually decided to keep the laptop as is - the only thing wrong at this point is the mute button that doesn't "click" when I push it down. But it still works. I don't think that's worth tearing the laptop apart for. Others agree?

I have a T410 that has a similar symptom. I'll investigate.

Having tested on my own T410 and a couple of others, it seems that the speaker mute button is a bit less clicky on all of them than the mic mute button, but both buttons work. It does not feel that the speaker mute button is "stuck" though.
