Question about Ultrabay hdd adapter fitment

#1 Post by vinuneuro » Mon Jan 03, 2011 11:42 pm

I just bought a ultrabay adapter for the 2nd hdd. I'm a little unclear on the hdd fitment though. In the picture the instructions on the ultrabay adapter show to remove the rubber rails from the hdd before installing. Does this mean the regular caddy goes in with the hdd? If so, I'll need to order another one.

Thanks.

If you put caddy on the drive its sort of locks into the Ulatrbay Slim HDD carrier, but you can put a drive in the carrier without the caddy and it will still work OK for most purposes.

If I intended to leave a drive in an Ultrabay Slim HDD carrier for the long term I'd put a caddy on it, but if its just short term use (for disk cloning, or similar) I don't bother.

Cheers,

Bill B.

Thanks for clarifying this Bill. I'm ordering an extra caddy. :)

I've been using the Ultrabay HDD adapter since my T23 days and have never put the drive in a caddy. The snap at the back is more than adequate to hold the drive in place. If I had a caddy for every different drive I put in I'd have financed the national debt by now.

You do want the caddy attached if you are moving it between the Ultrabay and internal drive slot. In some machines you won't be able to remove the HDD without the caddy as it provides the pull tab.
