t4x/t5x Additional Monitor and Graphics Card Help needed!

#1 Post by samac » Thu Jan 06, 2011 6:41 am

Hi Guys,

So after searching around on the net and getting some fairly contradictory info i thought i'd ask on here...

So i have a lenovo t400

I want ideally run two nec (or other decent make) 22 or 23 inch widescreen monitors off it. I have been trying to find out what graphics card i have and think it's only a chipset....Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family...which is not great right?

Q1. Will this chipset allow me to connect ONE 22/23inch monitor with resolutions up to 1680 x 1050 (for 22inch) or 1920 x 1080 (for the 23inch versions)?

Q2...Could i run two of them....plus my lenovo 14inch screen?

Also a side point but prob not your expertise....how do you rate the NEC E222W and E231w screens? any other decent one's to consider?

Thank you all so much for your help...

Sam

Regardless of whether it is chipset integrated graphics or discrete - you can connect up to two monitors of any size and any resolution at a given time, but not three. The two monitors can be two external (laptop LCD will be off) or one external and the laptop LCD).

However, the T400 has only one external monitor connector (VGA). To connect two - you'll need to use the advanced minidock / advanced dock.

for a really excellent display, take a look at the h/p 24 inch w2408 and/or the 25.5 inch w2558hc displays..
brilliant color and lots of real estate.. at 1920x1200..
hard to find new displays in this resolution as they all proudly proclaim "full HD" which really means crippled at 1050 x 1440 or whatever..

you'll have to find a refurb or used one since h/p does not seem to make these anymore..
