removing turbo memory
I've got a T400 with 2GB turbo memory, 4GB ram, Win Pro 64, and a 7200 RPM 320 GB HDD. I've got the 15 sec delay between POST and boot process. How much (and in what way) will removing the turbo memory affect performance of the system?
T400 2.26GHz, 4GB, 320GB, WXGA+, Windows 7 64 Pro & Ubuntu
Sl510 2.26Ghz, 3GB, 320GB, Windows 7 Home Premium 32 & Ubuntu
600X P3-500, 384MB, 40GB, WXPlite & Ubuntu
S51 2.6 P4 Linux file server
and a few others

Re: removing turbo memory
I don't have turbo memory in my T400, so I can't answer your question directly by removing it, but I would assume that there is a BIOS (or Intel) option to disable turbo memory. Try that and see if your boot time changes.
Re: removing turbo memory
I don't know if this is a verified issue, but I added a Turbo Memory Module on my own, and just removed it last week. I never had any startup slow down when it was installed, but I didn't have any real performance gains either. So to answer your question, you may not notice any performance decrease, but you may not notice faster POST times either.
On a side note: does Turbo Memory even support Windows XP? I thought it was basically just Windows ReadyBoost (which is only in Vista and 7)?

Re: removing turbo memory
It's just the opposite; Does XP support Turbo Memory? The answer is still the same....no.RTAdams89 wrote: On a side note: does Turbo Memory even support Windows XP?
