Optimus on T410s + Opera 11 + Fan noise

Hi,

I have three (honestly minor) issues, but still, just out of curiosity asking:

1. Whenever I play a youtube 1080p file in IE Optimus kicks in and activates the Nvidia GPU. When I try to play the same file in Opera 11, nothing happens. It sticks to the onboard intel GPU.

2. When I unplug the power adaptor the screen flickers. Same happens when I plug the power cord in. Is this normal behavior?

3. With AC unplugged, the laptop is inaudible to me. However, when pluggged in, fan noise is low, but constant and noticeable in a quiet environment. I do the same office stuff, so there shouldn't be higher temps (and really there aren't)l, How can I prevent this from happening?

I tried every option in TP power manager, and it does stay silent when switched to "reduce fan noise" mode. In that case however, turbo boost is deactivated which is too much of a trade off to me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Miscellaneous

Giday Mis*....
With my newer T410s(with Switable Video) ..... and after numberious calls to Lenovo Tech Support ,,,,I kinda gave up on some of the same Annoying Issues

1) I stick to IEx64 if I want to view in 1080p via Optimus. (I was told to 'update BIOS and Video driver by tech support to finx this issue) ,,,,, and after updates(nothing to update) it still is in my view - not working CORRECTLY. I did email Opera - they havent yet replied about 'video/optimus chip use.... :|

2) I do ALSO get the SAME ANNOYING flicker on my W510(multitouch) AND older W500 ! > so I jist try to ignore it! Only thing I did was- make the OFF-AC settings nearly same as in POWERED...(the screen brightness settings)

3) mine is nearly 'soundless' ... which is WHY I WONT BUY anything else except TP for personal use .... my house is super quite also!! Friends HP or Tosh = sound like a TRAIN ......

Sorry not much good/better news ,,, but maybe EU Tech Support can throw more/better light on these annoying issues ,,,

Cheers

Hey, thanks for your reply! I think I've found the solution at least to the screen flicker problem:

Although refresh rate is set to 60Hz in Lenovo power manager for both AC plugged in / out the Intel graphics driver seemed to have changed this setting on it's own.
Try to open up intel driver utility and make sure refresh rate is set to 60Hz in all cases!

This has solved the flicker for me.
1 solved - 2 more to go :)

Naw not normal at all.. da*n i hate it when support people are trying to get rid of ya with these kind of excuses.

however, bummer: the driver keeps on changing back to 50Hz after a while. dunno yet how to make it stick to 60Hz at all time.

I keep you posted :)

I think you're not the only ones to notice this, http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo- ... -x301.html (this has a good overview of the T410s).

Of course, you could try BIOS and driver updates, but I guess you've found these via Lenovo system update anyway. You could also try searching over at forums.lenovo.com and see if there's any useful info there.
