T500 docking station, 100mbit works but 1gbit does not

I have a docking station (port replicator) for the T500. I am trying to get it to do gigabit. I can do gigabit if I connect directly to the Ethernet port of the laptop.
I called IBM and since the docking station is out of warranty they can't help me (even though the laptop itself is). The person on the phone suggested I would be able to find some hint online as to how to fix it. I tried updating the BIOS from 3.15 to 3.17 and this has not changed anything.
Does anyone have any experience or can offer a suggestion on how to fix this problem?
