T410 Warranty void if I swap parts?

#1 Post by chrisavann » Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:38 pm

I have two T410's laptops (I5 & I7). I want to swap the I7 cpu into the I5 laptop (this has better LCD) and swap the wireless cards (Intel vs 6300N).

The I5 laptop has a warranty til 2013, will this void the warranty?

Yes. For some warranty claims they may not find out, for others they may not care. But in principle, yes.

I can't see swapping an i5 for an i7 making any difference that it'd be worth voiding the warranty. Lenovo also barcodes CPUs, though I suppose you could swap them back for warranty purposes.

Wireless cards are considered user replaceable on Thinkpads. You'd be on firm ground there if you want to swap them.

A CRU is a part you can replace. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-64758

Replacing a CRU shouldn't void a warranty. Whether the cpu is a CRU is something that should be in the Hardware Maintenance Manual.
