T510 - missing dimmer settings

Hi -
New to the forum, but not to Thinkpads, as I've had one since the days of the 600.
Recently purchased a T510 to replace a T60p with a failed backlight, and have to say I'm generally thrilled. Bit heavier and bulkier, but the FHD is something else. Already have used it in direct sunlight - first laptop I've ever owned that I could do that with.
Have run into a bit of an odd issue, though. I've swapped the 500 GB drive for a 256 GB SSD and put a fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64 instead of the Win 7 Pro 32 the model came with, with help from this thread to reduce bloatware: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=91695
However, once I install the graphics driver, I lose the ability to access certain dimmer settings for the screen via the FN-Home/End hotkeys. It's really odd - I can dim from 15-8 fine, but then I have an option of 6, and 1, and that's it.
I can access the other settings in power manager and if I reinstall the original hard drive, so there's clearly a software or driver issue going on. I've gone through a full wipe and reinstall (where I caught that the problem started when I installed the NVIDIA/Intel Optimus driver, since prior to that it was working) reinstalled the Hotkey driver over that, and no luck.
Anyone else run into this, or any suggestions?
