I'm happy with most of the specs. I wish I could get the 6200 wireless card, but I guess it's not a big deal. And i3 is fine, since this is just a laptop for home use (mainly web browsing).

Compared to pricing on lenovo.com, this seems like a great deal. And seller is a Lenovo reseller with superb feedback.

Is there anything to be aware of? The price is so much cheaper than lenovo.com, I almost have to be skeptical.

Make sure that its brand new in factory sealed box and not "box opened to verify contents/make free upgrades"
Also, ask when does warranty start?

Seller said the warranty starts when the machine is activated.

Well, if its brand new and sealed and not coming as refurb from lenovo outlet AND there isnt cheaper T410s available at the moment and you need it now the buy it.

Ive used google.com/products to search for cheapest deals, its buggy tho and sometimes simply doesnt work.

not bad considering the 8GB rams and 128GB ssd
and you can extend the warranty if it's not a refurbished one (I'm not sure if refurb is eligible for warranty extension and never have a try)

That is the same one I'm looking at. However, I haven't pulled trigger since it's only i3. I'm holding out for i5 at least, or seeing if the seller drops the price once T420 comes out.

Well, on $999 im saving $120 = $879.02 My coupon is expiring in 2 days... and I really want an 8GB RAM with 128SSD

core i3... really? at the very least go with a core i5. I have the 560m and its slow at times.

My advice re: CPU is this: Are you going to be doing software development with lots of compilation? Mathematical simulation? No? Then get the cheapest CPU you can. Your performance bottlenecks lie elsewhere.

All I do is some graph design, web development, watch movies and surf internet. The size of the HDD is not a factor for me (since I have 500gb drive) I also want my machine to boot fast and perform well for this 'big buck'.

Both of those machines are vastly more powerful than you need. Get the i3 with 8GB of RAM and the SSD, no question.

This must be a T410si with the Core i3, a model that was never sold via the public website to my knowledge. It also isn't a recent build, probably built late last year.

If the seller's feedback is good on laptops (you can see the auction title in their feedback listings), then you should be fine to buy this. As long as it arrives sealed, you can work with Lenovo's customer support to have the warranty date reset in case the date did start upon shipment.

As for a good deal, it is definitely good considering the SSD and 8GB RAM. You will lose some CPU performance during heavy usage (video/audio encoding, etc) and a good rule of thumb is to buy as much CPU as you can afford once the other computer specs (RAM, HDD, etc) are satisfied. This is especially true with laptops as the CPU is not as easily upgraded.

For reference a new T410s with 128GB SSD and Core i5-560M would run you $1439 with the current St. Patrick's Day Sale. Add in your own 8GB RAM for <$100. Of course, you could opt for one with a mechanical HDD for $1169 and add your own SSD of choice, which may be cheaper and allow you to pick your model of choice.

So, yes, it's a good deal; but not great, mainly due to the CPU and that the T420s is imminent.

OK, so going back to all reviews, I made my chose to go with T400s 2808C4U

Just bought it "New in Open Box" from ebay, I paid $684.90

Looks like a good system! If you have the budget, some more RAM and an SSD will really wake that beauty up. I don't know if that model has 1x2GB or 2x1GB modules, but a single 4GB module can be had for <$40 these days. Also, Buy.com is running a killer deal on the 120GB Intel 2nd generation SSD. It's not the fastest or highest capacity, but the better drives generally cost 2-3x as much and this is still leaps & bounds above a mechanical HDD (especially the pokey 1.8-inch drive in the T400s).
