Chinese character file names on w 510
Seems as if no matter what I do, I keep encountering 2 directories on the hard drive of my new w510 that have Chinese character file names. One of them takes up quite a bit of screen space left to right. What are these directories all about?

Very likely disk corruption.
Run a CHKDSK /F immediately.

Well...I recognize machine language (as is typical with checkdsk data) when I see it on screen, but this is genuine chinese language characters.

Where are they found? What are they named?

Re: Chinese character file names on w 510
No way to know what they're named...as I don't read Chinese. Next time it happens...I'll note the location. There are 2 files when it happened (I deleted them last time.) One chinese file name reaches almost all the way across the screen. The other is about 30 characters.Colonel O'Neill wrote:Where are they found? What are they named?
Re: Chinese character file names on w 510
If you are able to copy the file names, you can use Google Translate (copy & paste) to get a general idea of what the files are named.

Re: Chinese character file names on w 510
May we presume that it's not some sort of Chinese program that you have installed onto your computer, and this program had created a Chinese folder?
FYI, I'm based in Hong Kong, I installed English Win7-Pro on my T410, and there are no Chinese folders anywhere on my computer.

I haven't installed anything on the computer that should have anything to do with China. It is my business machine, so it NEVER goes on the net.

"小黑" is the term some Chinese use to describe ThinkPads.

That translates to "black" -- so "I like black" is "I like Thinkpads"

Yep...error free. I deleted the 2 folders with chinese filenames. Today, however, wordperfect 15 showed up with chinese characters for the icon label on the desktop.
