STATIC ELECTRICITY, T410 Mainboard????

hello everyone:

So I've experienced my first scare with the T410 which i've only had for a week now, apparently it was a static electricity buildup of the main-board, according to lenovo. The machine wouldn't boot, even with AC power. I called the 800 tech support number.

Their solution is to "reset" the main-board by pressing the power button 10 times and holding down on the 11th time for 20 seconds to clear the static electricity.

Everything working fine, but how do I avoid this in the future? This experience almost had me in tears and I was so *****Expletives removed by Moderator***** and fustrated and I kept thinking: "I just got this... now I have to go through the process of sending it back?" and "I knew I should of bought a macbook pro". I cannot afford downtime... this machine is my primary tool for college, so if any of you know of any tips to avoid the static build up, please let me know. Is this widespread? Should I prepare to send the thing back?

any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Sincerely,

raven3

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a common phenomena on most Thinkpads and it happens very infrequently. If it starts happening frequently then send it in. I've had Thinkpads where it happens once and never again.

We never get the problem here because relative humidity is always fairly high. (In other words, raining cats and dogs. )
