Roll cage on new T series

#1 Post by nicothink » Wed Feb 23, 2011 2:14 pm

Hi,

I have read that the current T series line does not have a roll cage for the screen? Is this correct? Furthermore, what is in place to protect the screen if the roll cage has gone?
And finally, is this the same for all the T4xx and the T5xx?

Thank you!

The T400 and T500 have the classic magnesium rollcage (plate inside the lid).
The T410 uses an HEPC plastic lid and the T510 uses a CFRP lid rollcage.

The T420 and T520 I'm not sure about, but they claim it'll be 50% stronger than the T400/T500.

Thanks!

Please would you explain what HEPC and CFRP mean? Is there any reason why the roll cage for the screen was taken out? I suppose time will show the T420 and T520 specs! Whether they have a roll cage or an alternative instead.

HEPC is an acronym for High-Elasticity PolyCarbonate.
CFRP is an acronym for Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic.

One of the reasons for removing the metallic component of the rollcage was to improve wireless signal quality.

A rollcage does not necessarily need to have metal in it to be effective.

The plastic terms don't mean much to me! But as long as Lenovo can keep the display safe from pressures i.e in a bag etc then that's great!
I thought the metal was needed for the roll cage to be effective, but I suppose some plastics will have advantages.

Thanks!

T420 is supposed to have next generation roll cage, probably the same as on T510.
