T410 LCD fungus

#1 Post by ohjohnny » Wed Mar 02, 2011 1:14 pm

I got a refurbished T410 (model 2516) last November that looked like a million dollars. It seemed fine until I noticed long, thin, very faint marks running on the sides of the screen. The lcd image underneath the marks is intact and there are no dead pixels, scan lines or anything of the sort. I'm beting this is fungus, although the notebook is kept in a soft case, inside a closed backpack.

The notebook's warranty is still good but Lenovo won't not cover this, of course.

My doubts are:
1) Has anyone experienced anything like this?
2) Can it be cleaned or will I have to replace the display?
3) In case of replacement, a Full HD display would be nice. What are the recommended brands and how much would a replacement cost?
4) How difficult is servicing the T410 for this replacement? Easy enough for some one with average experience?

was your LCD organic LED based ?
It would be very informative to confirm if and why the fungus came to like a thinkpad.
Inform lenovo that it is probably edible fungus and they might be more intersted?.
Refurbished goods can't claim warranty.

Do you have a picture of this? The problem is fixable by changing the LCD, which is not too difficult. Follow the hardware manual if you are not sure.
