T410i

I was given an Edge 15, and have been very unhappy with it. I've used a T42, and thought it was about the best laptop I've ever used. That said, I want a newer machine than that for my primary...

So, my question is this: Is the T410i comparable in quality to the T42? Is it better than the edge? I'm thinking I'll send the Edge back to my dealer and pay the difference to get a T410i

I don't need a high spec machine- I use GoogleApps and Microsoft Office for just about everything I do. However, I do work with my computer 8-10 hours per day, and I take it with me to client meetings- so a lot of bumping around in a pickup on the dirt roads of Maine. I've been using a Dell 8200 for years prior to getting the Edge, and in fact I'm using the 8200 now as the edge just shut itself off again for no reason.

This probably depends on what you define "quality" as. The T410i certainly will feel much, much more solid than the Edge (at least the ones that I've used have). As far as durability, the T410 won't die an early death due to planar flex, nor will the Southbridge fail (or at least such failures haven't been discovered yet.) As far as fit + finish and "feel" compared to the T42... well... that depends entirely on what you're looking for and how you measure it.

Personally I think my T410 is superior to my T43p in some aspects and inferior in others, so I can't really say which is better; it's very much a matter of opinion. Sorry I can't be of much more help...

Well, I purchased it. The edge 15 went back and was replaced with a T410i 2gb ram, core i3 processor, win 7 pro x64

I love it. No complaints about anything. I've been warned that the 2gb ram would be a problem, but for what I'm doing it's fast, has a great keyboard, and the screen is much better than the one on the edge, even though this is the lower end 1280x800 screen. Overall, great machine, and worth every penny. I wish they hadn't sold me on the edge in the first place.
