T410 Strange Display Problem With White On Black Text
T410 Strange Display Problem With White On Black Text
Recently, I've noticed an unusual display problem when visiting one particular forum website. The forum site uses white text on a black background... actually more of a dark gray. I can't say when I first noticed this, but it was only recently, so something has changed.
The "screenshot" link below should show what I will try to describe. Look closely at the rendering of any letter w. Also, to a lesser degree, the letters v and y. Do they look "faded out" to you (not sure how better describe it)? The rest of the screen appears normal. Other websites appear normal, but I don't know off hand of any other sites that use white on black text. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Any idea what is going on, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?
The T410 is up to date with all Microsoft and lenovo ThinkVantage System Update 4 updates. I have connected an external LCD monitor and it also displays the same "faded" letters.
The T410 configuration is in my sig, along with an external link to it's Full System Specs (Piriform Speccy).
Here is the screenshot - make sure you click on the displayed image to expand it to full size (resolution).

Your eyes aren't tricking you; it's rendering the w's really funny.
Not seeing it here:

Try a different browser on the same page. It might just be IE9's ClearType rendering peculiarities.
EDIT: I can't seem to tell which font it's using. Might just be that it's not very ClearType-friendly.

Thanks for confirming it wasn't my eyes (I had cataract surgery a month ago and my sight in general had improved... until this)
I would have to install a different browser to test.
I didn't see any problem with the w's in your image either. How did you reverse the display colors?
There may not be anything wrong with my T410. Maybe it is the font they are using. If that's the case, nothing I can do about it anyway.

Re: T410 Strange Display Problem With White On Black Text
I wrote a half-baked Stylish script for TPF.
It's probably their font. Not sure but you might be able to convince IE9 to use Segoe UI as it's default font.

Re: T410 Strange Display Problem With White On Black Text
It may very well be something with IE9. The same webpage displayed on my WinXP Pro SP3 desktop PC using IE8 does NOT have the problem.

IIRC, ClearType rendering got a major overhaul somewhere between XP and 7.
