T420 - T520 QM67 B2 or B3 stepping??

Howdy,

I do not have a T420 or a T520 at hand and I am curious as to what revision of the QM67 chipset Lenovo is shipping in the T420 and T520 computers. If one or more of you folks that have these machines would be so kind as to check for me and let me know your results, I'd sure appreciate it. The reason that I am asking is that I bought a new W520 ThinkPad and it arrived with B2 stepping, which appears to have the Sandy Bridge SATA glitch.

You can use CPU-z or a cmd window to obtain your stepping results. In the cmd window type "wmic idecontroller get deviceid" without the quote marks and look at the results. If the last line of the results contains the string REV_04, then you have a QM67 B2 stepping. If the last line contains the string REV_05, then you have a B3 stepping board.

Thanks for playing!

:D

There were ZERO ThinkPads shipped with the flawed B2 stepping. They are all B3 systems. The concern that is coming out right now is from the way the chipsets are reporting through software. They are all configured to report as B2 so that enterprise shipments with software/OS images already created dont get messed up when hardware IDs change.

So, lots of people had images for W520 and T520 machines with B2 stepping on hand that we don't want to mess with so we will have the B3 stepping machines report themselves as B2. But *if* no B2 machines were ever made, why would we have to worry about B2 images, since there aren't any B2 machines. In fact there are no W520 or T520 images, since the W520 and T520 are new machines and no images would have been made anywhere at all, outside of Lenovo Operating System restore images.
