T410 Core i5 560M

#1 Post by PIP33 » Sat Apr 23, 2011 9:31 pm

Hi all,

I'm new here, but I've been a long-time IBM/Lenovo enthusiast. I finally think I'm ready to take the plunge on a new system. I've been searching different sites, including the official Lenovo site, and here is one of the better configurations I've found. The specs are as follows:
*Intel Core i5 560M at 2.66GHz Dual Core L3 Cache (3MB)
*14.1" TFT LED WXGA (1280X800) Widescreen
*4GB DDR3 RAM
*500GB 7200RPM SATA HDD (thinking of switching to SSD)
*DVD +/- Burner/Drive
*NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M Video Card
*Thinkpad 11 b/g/n
*6-cell battery
*Windows 7 Professional x64

Total Price: $815 (excluding shipping)
What do you all think? Is this a good deal? I really do need the laptop, as my main machine looks/feels like it's going to give out on me (purchased in 2003 and upgraded as much as possible).

Get the WXGA+ (1440 X 900) LCD. The quality is much better on a T410.

Oh, if you had only replied sooner. I went ahead and paid for it yesterday. How much better is the quality?

if you ordered it from lenovo.com then you can try calling the sales line on monday and requesting the change.   there's a menu option for order changes.

Much better ... clearer, less grainy, better contrast.

I thank all who responded. I am going to see if I can upgrade the screen.

Based on the specs, do you all think the price I paid is fair?

I just received my T410 and its downright impressive. I am going to swap for a higher resolution screen, but I am happy with everything else so far.

Well, I have unfortunately discovered the keyboard weaknesses that others have reported. It's a bit disappointing, but whatever. I really like the T410 overall.

You could try taking the keyboard off and reseating it. Adding some padding under weak areas might help.

I will do that. Also, I only noticed it because I read the forums and knew where to put pressure. Had I not, I probably would not have even noticed it. My friend has an Asus and the keyboard on it is so much worse.
