T400s\T410 Keyboard in a T400

#1 Post by hunterman223 » Mon May 02, 2011 1:12 pm

Has anyone ever done it? Is it possible? Those keyboards look way nicer, better shortcut buttons and the classic red trackpoint buttons.

It seems it is not possible, different screw locations.

How about a T43 keyboard? Can't find anything saying yes or no. If not, could the trackpoint buttons be swapped?

Thanks, would it be possible to swap the buttons? My guess is no because I am probably not the first one to wonder. :)

I looked into it, and it seems a no go. Lenovo slightly changed the layout so that it does not really match anything that came before it. I, too, would like a different keyboard, and that's why I looked up the info in the first place. Ah well.

Hmm. Too bad. Its strange that they made the T400s keyboard in the same style as the T410, but left out the T400.

Not too bad . . .

I'm getting used to the keyboard. I am not as accurate on it as I thought I would be after using a T61 and really liking that one. I assume I'll get used to this one though.

You do know that the keyboards from the T61/T60 and the T400 are interchangeable, right?

This was a well-known fix back when the T400 series had problems with "mushy" keyboards- ones with more backplate flex. They also had shorter keystrokes than the ones from the T6x line. T6x ones also have a solid metal backplate and are heavier than the T400 ones.

So if you like the T61/T60 keyboard, acquire one and install it- it's also very easy to do and won't void your warranty if you still have it. Just make sure it's doesn't have a "ventilated" back.

Just say no to the ThinkBook Pro.

Yes, I actually have a T61 keyboard at the moment. I just liked the looks of the T400s with the shortcut buttons and the red lines on the trackpoint buttons.
