Lenovo shipping bad hard drives

#1 Post by CoolRunnings » Fri May 13, 2011 2:55 am

*RANT*

I have received about a half dozen Thinkpads over the last couple months with bad hard drives - mostly all Seagate drives. I call Lenovo and go through their phone process and they mail me a replacement drive only it also is bad right out of the box. All these drives have high numbers of reallocated sectors and any decent hard drive test would pick this up. This is by far the SMART attribute most indicative of a drive failing. Can it really be THAT hard for them to ship non-defective drives for warranty replacements???

Of the four Seagates (one my own) that I've seen Lenovo ship, none of them came defective AFAIK. Seagate tends to suck anyway though.

Of my 3 500gb seagate ES.2 drives, 1 remains.
which is sad because they were once the most reliable.

WD seems on the ball these days. maxtors are just rebranded seagates. i've had big luck with samsung (over a large sample ive never seen one fail to date).

Glad my T420 came with a WD blue.

Mmm. I heard they were shipping Scorpio Blacks instead of Momentus 7200.4 drives too.
