T400 - Adding webcam

I have a T400 that doesn't currently have a webcam in it. I have another T400 that isn't working properly that has a working webcam built in. Is it possible to take the built-in webcam from the non-working T400 and put it in my working T400?

I've looked at a couple threads on here (Here and Here - Different forum) but can't seem to figure it out. The first topic shows how to replace the LCD but I was unable to get everything disconnected (mainly the cables from the mainboard to the LCD). The second topics shows how to just add the webcam but my display didn't seem to have the connector on the end like it should (or shouldn't it have one?)

Anyhow, any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the ThinkPads forum!

The first thing you should look at is the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T400 and R400. Page 277 (or 285 as shown in the reader) gives you an exploded view of the LCD assembly components. The table on the following pages show that there are different cables for models with and without camera. This means that you will have to move the cable as well as the camera module and the bezel.

It might be easier to just move the whole LCD assembly from the non-working laptop (assuming the LCD is good, you don't say what's wrong with the non-working T400). Page 116 (124) and following pages talk about doing just that.

Good luck!
