Windows turns off displays but cant turn them back on

I have had this problem since day 1 with my T410 and docking station.
I use 2 external monitors thru the dock.
In the power settings, if I set the displays to be turned off after X amount of time, it works, however, when I come back to the computer to use it again, the displays don't come back on.
I have to put the computer in sleep and then awake in order to get the displays back on. Sometimes I have to do it a few times until the displays come back on.
However, when I wake the computer in this process, then login screen comes on, but once I log in the displays turn off again.

This problem has happened to me with both the Lenovo OEM windows 7 and my clean full version of windows 7.

Happens only when in the docking station with external monitors.

Any ideas?
