T420 beeping after bluetooth is turned on
T420 beeping after bluetooth is turned on
Hi,
I have a problem with bluetooth. Or at least I guess I tracked it to Bluetooth correctly.
Whenever the bluetooth is turned on, either on Windows 7 64bit start up or in Fn+F5 menu, the computer makes a short quite low sound/beep.
I really would like to turn this sound off but cannot find it in Windows sound settings nor in the Bluetooth menu.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance,
Martin

There should be a setting in BIOS to disable sounds/alarms.

Is it the device unplug/replug noise?

Thanks for your inputs.
I knew about this setting in BIOS. I looked there again however, and realized, there is a keyboard sound enabled whenever keys pressed are unmanageable. So I tried what sound is produced in this case in Windows and realized that it is exactly the same as my sound.
I dont know if this is related somehow, but can be.
I tried to disable ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 in Device Manager. After it was enabled again, the sound was produced.

Re: T420 beeping after bluetooth is turned on
Does enabling Bluetooth cause any other weird symptoms?
If not, you might want to consider disabling the beep driver in Windows. The fact that it beeps may suggest some other underlying problem, though.

No other weird symptoms.
It is really strange, never happened to me before. Just wanted to know if you have an easy answer, I might have omitted something.
If you dont, I will probably disable the keyboard sounds in BIOS...
Thanks so far anyway.

It's probably the Windows device sound, just disable the Windows system sounds to get rid of it.
Re: T420 beeping after bluetooth is turned on
I have my Windows system sounds set to "No sounds", so that is probably not the cause.

I have the same issue. I've turned off any sound option I can think of, including the bias. The only sound left is the critical battery alarm, which shouldn't cause this issue. The beep sounds 5-8 seconds after the desktop comes up.
Re: T420 beeping after bluetooth is turned on
After updating the Bluetooth driver (via windows update) on my t420 I experienced an error each time I turned on bluetooth. The solution that worked for me was deleting the 'bluetooth' shortcut in the startup folder, you can find this folder using msconfig > startup. after deleting the shortcut bluetooth works fine for me and doesn't take forever trying to identify devices, or make a mysterious noise or pop up an error.
Hope this helps :/

Re: T420 beeping after bluetooth is turned on
How bizzare! Your fix worked. I simply deleted the bluetooth shortcut from the startup folder in "all programs" in the start menu. Thanks for your help.
