Keyboard cover recommendation? (T510)

#1 Post by lparsons » Wed Jun 22, 2011 10:13 pm

Does anyone use the silicon keyboard covers that are being sold all over the place? I bought one for my T510 through Amazon and I'm a bit under-impressed by it. I figured the clear covers would be ... clear. Unfortunately this one really isn't, it is painfully obvious on the all-black laptop.

I have seen some ebay sellers selling them in black, but they are black with the key identifiers on them in a non-IBM/lenovo typeface so they don't look quite the same. If I could get them in black with *no* letters or numbers, I'd be up for that :)

I know there is one sold on the lenovo website, has anyone used it? Pictures would be great if possible.

The main reason why I'm doing this is I have naturally oily skin, so I tend to wear out the finishes on keyboards rather quickly. I am very cautious with my laptops, so spillage has never happened in around 10 years of owning thinkpads. I would just like he finish to last a bit longer on the keys.

I use a sheet of microfiber cloth. It's a sky blue color, so it's not that distracting. Sorta IBM blue, but lighter.

typing wouldn't be too hard with that if you can touch type, but how would you accurately use the trackpoint with a sheet of fabric on top of the keyboard? The silicon cover I am currently using does have an indentation for the trackpoint that fits it fairly well (after all the trackpoint is one of the reasons I bought a thinkpad instead of one of those "other" brands)...
