Bought Used T400, ordered Recovery Media

#1 Post by mulambo187 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 10:34 pm

Just recently bought a used T400 off craigslist, 6473-41U, not bad, it came loaded with Windows 7 Pro and had Office 2007 built in. I noticed the hard drive had been changed from the expected 320 down to an 80, seller apologized and knocked a few bucks off.

Anyhow, I attempted to factory restore the computer when I got home with it, loaded up windows 7 and immediately started to BSOD at the new windows install loading screen over and over again. The recovery partition also appeared to have self destructed.... Anyhow I am going to put an SSD sooner then later into this rig, I installed a fresh copy of W7Pro I had from school and managed to arrange with Lenovo to have them send me Recovery Media as the machine is still under warranty....

My question is this, can anyone decipher what is actually on this recovery media? Here is the details from the lenovo website. Kind of cryptic, just a little curious to see what it is, I am hoping at least 64-bit so I can use this machine to it's full potential.

HI there;
reading your post - FYI , you CAN ASK Lenovo Tech Support to send you the X64 OS (since windows x32 is interchangeable with x64 with SAME ONE KEY!!)
If you are have the COA - Lenovo will send you X64 version of what the 'factoryCOA" was/is on that machine in X64 if you ASK FOR IT.
So ASK away !

As far as details - not sure of the 'new Lenov" R&R loads in windows7( didnt bother to look at these = am linux/unix user mostly)
AFAIK...the early XP = where kinda 'standerd loads" for most models across the thinkpads- and each model's installed was 'compiled@initial HD" scan etc ,,,,ie in many ways XP didnt have individual model LOADS - each laptop ran a script to complie its LOAD PARMATERS and then 'sourced' the 'dvd/CD lib'ries for the data - than did a install from that.
Thus making XP install = seems endless!

Cheers

Ended up getting Windows 7 Pro 64 bit spread over two discs, so that is ok....

Just wondering, if I were to buy another T400, would there be a technical problem using these discs again on a different machine?
