T420 NVIDIA Question

#1 Post by 20Off » Mon Jul 18, 2011 2:39 pm

Hi all,

I know there are a couple threads about graphics cards, but I have my own issue and didn't want to hijack anyone's thread, so hopefully someone can help with this.

So, after 5 happy years with my old R60, I finally decided to upgrade, and went for a T420, with i7, 8gb of RAM, 1366 X 768 screen and nvidia gpu option. I don't do any gaming, but I am a beta tester for 3D application, and I'm having issues running the graphics smoothly. In fact, the performance on my 5 year old R60 (which had a Radeon X1300) is significantly better than the constant hiccups I'm experiencing on the new thinkpad.

Lenovo support seemed unsure, and assigned some blame to win7 drivers that aren't quite ready for prime time, but I'm hoping there's actually something wrong, because I really like everything else about this laptop, and if I can't get better performance, I will have to sell it off.

Can anyone else with a similar setup run some benchmarks or let me know if they've seen anything similar? I've already upgraded to both the latest nvidia drivers, and the latest from the Lenovo website. I ran the 3dmark benchmark and got P2625 3DMarks.

Thanks,

M
