I have posted a perfect solution for the ones that do not like the textured touchpad surface of newer thinkpads here:

It works like a charm on my T400s, and even looks fine, even better than with the old surface I think.

What measurements did you use?

I used these measurements:
1 x Black for PC Touchpad Protector skin = $9.90
Width 76
Height 46
the height was a little too much, maybe 45 mm would be better for the t400s. - Or actually 45.5 would fit i think. It works really good, the best thing that has happened to this computer, which I otherwise considers to be flawless. Now I newer notice the touchpad anymore, no sore or tired finger. You might also want to do minor adjustments to the touchpad settings to make it work perfect with this new surface, eg. the 'palmcheck' and sensitivity setings, but this is easy. Good luck.

Have just replaced the gritty touchpad on a T410 now also for a friend as described in this thread. The solution also works flawless on a T410, I can report.
