T500 - suddenly, no power?

One of the T500 machines I'm rebuilding (224235U) did something strange today.

When I received it, it was the typical stripped machine - no memory, no CD/DVD, no battery, no HDD, no AC adapter. I powered it up without any of these, except the AC adapter, and had the standard 1-3-3-1 beep pattern (no memory). I installed memory (2x2GB), a CD/DVD drive, and the AC adapter, and I was able to access the BIOS. I saved the default settings on the BIOS, and it rebooted. After the reboot, it powered itself off, and will not do anything more. The power LED doesn't even come on when connected to wall - non-responsive to the power switch. I've tried several different AC adapters, both 65 and 90 Watt.

I let it sit overnight, plugged into the wall, hoping it was a charging issue, and no luck. The fan spins freely in this, so I don't suspect it's the fan.

Any suggestions?

Try a reset. Remove the battery and press the power button 10 times at 1 second intervals, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then release it. Reinstall the battery then try to power up.

No luck on this machine - it's going to get punted to eBay.

I tried good 6 cell and a 9 cell batteries. Different AC adapters. The forced power reset combination. No good. This machine just "quit" for some reason. I reseated the AC connector to the motherboard, and also made sure there was nothing obviously detatched or broken. Likely a bad system board.
