ASIO audio on T410? Or, best audio config to use conexant?

Hi Folks,

Has anyone here played around with getting ASIO running on a conexant 20585 chipset? I'd like to see if I can get better quality audio coming out of my T410 by routing audio directly to the conexant DSP chip, rather than running it through layers of Windows processing.

Or, what the best audio configuration to make use of the conexant audio DSP? I thought ASIO would be the answer, but then I heard about WASAPI. I dunno - anyone know? I'm using mediamonkey to play my tunes, and it's generally compatible with winamp plugins.

Any help greatly appreciated!

If you're using Windows 7 and running iTunes, you can use WASAPI.

Start QuickTime and go into Edit > Preferences and choose the Audio tab. Here, you have 3 options for where to output sound - Standard DirectSound, Safe mode or Windows Audio Session. Choosing the latter routes everything through WASAPI. It doesn't work in exclusive mode, but it does give you 'bit perfect' output. Now go back to iTunes and start enjoying your music like it's never sounded through iTunes before.

thanks Aiwi. I use mediamonkey, and version 4 is apparently WASAPI-capable. It's in beta now - hopefully they'll have a release candidate out soon.

Anyway, is WASAPI routing the audio to the conexant chip? I assume it'd also be possible just to use the CPU for audio processing as well. Any way to make sure the conexant chip is the one being used?
