ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
I'm hoping that someone else has encountered this problem as well and can point me in the right direction. I have a T500 running Win7 Enterprise (64-bit) with 6GB of RAM. It has the latest updates on everything.
I recently went to make some changes in my Access Connection profiles. I started the app. It showed the splash screen and then ... nothing. No user interface window. The task was shown in the taskbar but if I clicked on it (minimize/restore) I was shown no window. No other errors or anything else.
I posted on the Lenovo forums about this and was asked to remove both Access Connections and the Lenovo Toolbox and re-install them. The person that replied to my post said that it didn't matter what order I did the re-installation. So, I did that. And, it still didn't work. I even tried installing the prior version of Access Connections and had the same outcome.
Now, I see that the ThinkVantage Power Manager application is exhibiting the same behavior. I start the application (either from the Control Panel or from the Task tray entry). It shows its splash screen and then nothing. No user interface window.
Rather frustrating to say the least. Right now both Access Connections and the Toolbox are removed from my system. I am about to remove the Power Manager application too.
Anyone else encountered this? All three of the misbehaving applications were the latest versions from Lenovo.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did with Rescue and Recovery. Never did get it to work again.

Bummer. Well, I'll let you know if I ever make any headway on my particular problem.nikki605 wrote:Yes, I did with Rescue and Recovery. Never did get it to work again.

It's a shame. I really liked the ability to have profiles in Access Connections.
Re: ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
My Access Connections & the Toolbox still work... go figure. They have even survived several updates from System Update 4. But not RnR.

Try this. "Launch" the application. When the icon appears in the taskbar, click it to focus it. Press Alt+Space, then M, then the Down arrow. Wave your mouse around and see if it's holding on to the window.
You might also fix it by clearing the Window Size/Location cache using CCleaner.

Hmm... Wish I'd seen this before I had removed Power Manager this morning.Colonel O'Neill wrote:Try this. "Launch" the application. When the icon appears in the taskbar, click it to focus it. I'll give it a try when I have a chance. Also, I don't have or intend to use CCleaner. Is that Window Size/Location cache a registry entry? If so, do you know what the registry location is?
Re: ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
I got a reply to my topic over on the Lenovo forums. Apparently, another user that ran into this problem rolled back a recent AMD GPU driver update that got pushed out through System Update and got everything working again.

Re: ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
Interesting idea, but I have Intel HD graphics in my T410. There have been video driver updates installed by System Update in the year that I've owned it. Not sure I want to go to the trouble of rolling back to a previous driver. Especially since my problem (RnR) is a little different from yours.

Re: ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
Same thing happened to me on a T400. I manually downloaded the both the driver and the Power Management software. Then re-loaded the driver and then the software. Now everything works as it should.
Re: ThinkVantage Utilities no longer display interface windows
happened to me when i was playing with the POWER MANAGEMENT driver. I re-installed the PM drivers and the THINKVANTAGE drivers and all was well again.
